charmed life (i wrote this entry for me)

after 2 years and 3 months, DHC finally came back to utah! it took the olympics to get them here (dumb olympics turned out to be good for something). i saw them on tuesday!

so my last customer on tuesday would not shut up. he kept asking me to try to get his program to do all this stuff that it just doesn't do to try to make up for his not doing things the right way in the first place. i was so annoyed. it’s not my fault people are stupid. i didn't get to leave until 45 minutes after i was supposed to. so when i finally got rid of him, i rushed to my mom and dad's to pick up jonica and we drove up to SLC.

we drove around for a while and found parking (which was right in front of a driveway to this empty, fenced-in lot... i wasn't sure if it was legal, but eh. somebody else was parked there, too, and parking in the lots cost $15.) when i was parking, i stalled my car, so i just decided that it was good enough and got out... just as i heard the door shut, i realized that my keys were still in the ignition (i usually take them out when i turn off the car, but the engine was already off 'cause i stalled it.), and both joni and i are very good about locking our doors when we get out, so we were locked out of the car, and we both still had our coats (which we'd wanted to leave in the car).

the show was supposed to start in an hour, so we went to this mall that was close by to see if we could quickly find a cop or somebody that'd help us. surprisingly (despite all this supposed heightened security for the olympics), we couldn't, so we decided, “oh, well,” and set off to find the venue (there was no way i was missing DHC).

so we got there (we were parked, like, 2 blocks away from it!) and found out that the show was gonna start an hour later than originally planned. normally a bad thing, but it gave us time to try to get into the car. we found a great big group of police there, but they basically ignored us/shrugged us off (jerks!). a girl that worked there overheard us and said she had a wire hanger in her car if that'd help. it was such a relief (yes, i know how to break into cars). so we went to her car and her husband had taken out their dry cleaning so no hanger. drat!

we went back to the mall to look for someone to help or a wire hanger (although we knew the chances of that happening were slim) since the show wasn't starting for over an hour. finally, we found a cop at the mall who had a slim jim, but he couldn't leave his post and wasn't getting off until midnight. at least we had one option.

we went back towards the car, and when we got there, there was a guy who works for the city putting duct tape over the no parking sign right next to my car (which answered the legality of parking there question). i asked him if he didn't, by chance, have a slim jim, and he said, "not with me," then yelled to another guy to run back to "the yard" and get the slim jim! in a matter of 10 minutes the guy was back and opened the car for us! we thanked him profusely, left our coats, and headed back to the ice village (the venue).

when we got there, they'd already let people in. we wandered around and got some free sobe they were handing out, and i bought a couple of DHC shirts (this one and this one). then we went up towards the stage (no one had gathered there yet) and parked on the railing front and center! i guess that was everybody's cue to get in position 'cause we were suddenly surrounded. not long after that, the show started.

save ferris played first. they were fun. at one point, monique came down from the stage and everybody was trying to touch her (i think she likes it), but joni and i just stood there, so she reached out and grabbed our arms. at the end, they were gonna play one last song, but the stage dudes practically closed the curtains on them (those jerks!). when DHC was setting up, one of the stage dudes came down and handed me save ferris' set list. the last 2 songs they had (that they didn't get to play) were my 2 favorites. dangit!

so then these 2 guys who were apparently there to see DHC came and tried to shove me and joni over. we just shoved back... they ended up shoving over the people on the other side of them.

then dhc played. they were amazing (as usual). karina and elyse looked great... last time i saw them, they looked kinda tired. a couple songs into their set, this really drunk, really annoying girl showed up right next to us. she was smelly, too, but we won't get into that. jason was looking a little bored and slightly grumpy. joni and i caught his eye and smiled at him... i think that helped a lot ‘cause he smiled back and didn't look so grumpy after that. it was waaaaaaaaaaay too short. they only played 13 songs, but it was so much fun while it lasted!

we didn't really care about the last band, but we hung around hoping maybe to get DHC's set list. i asked one of the security guys if he'd get it for me, but he wouldn't. dumbhead! then one of the other security guys got it and gave it to somebody else, buuuut the same stage guy who'd given me save ferris' set list picked up the other one (!) and was bringing it to me! the girls next to me tried to grab it, but i grabbed the closest one's arm, pushed it away and grabbed the paper. i didn't even realize really that i'd done it until i heard her, um, exclamations of distaste, but he was very obviously bringing it to me, so i didn’t care.

we hung around for the first couple of songs of fishbone, but they were not so good, so we goed home, and that's it! it was such a blast that i’ll be good for another couple of years if i hafta be.
